Our Mission & Why

Hillcrest High School – (Class of 2011) Basketball Prospect

Tobias failed running his own recruiting process as a unranked high school basketball prospect in the Class of 2011.

Winthrop University (Division 1) – Walk On Player

He turned down the one Division 2 scholarship offer he had from Anderson University, to walk on at a Division 1 Winthrop University.

Spartanburg Methodist College (JUCO) – Scholarship Player

As a sophomore, he then transferred to Spartanburg Methodist College (JUCO) and his college playing career ended after that season and he joined the United States Air Force Reserves.

Coaching at USC Upstate – Division 1 Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

In retrospect, he gave great individual effort to get recruited, but most things were done wrong because he did not have anyone experienced with the recruiting guiding him.

His passion for the game never left and during his senior year of college and his coaching journey began as an Assistant Basketball Coach at Converse College, a Division 2 school in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Tobias went on to coach at Winthrop University (D1) in Rock Hill, South Carolina, USC-Upstate (D2) in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Walsh University (D2) in Canton, Ohio, and The University of Charleston (D2) in Charleston, West Virginia.

During his 5 years as a college coach he was named a Top Thirty Under 30 Assistant Coach by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in 2018.

This prestigious award was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches under the age of 30.

He has also been a speaker for the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) at numerous Final Four National Conventions for NCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches.

Winthrop University – Division 1 Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Walsh University – Division 2 Graduate Asst. Coach & Head JV Coach

Winthrop University – Division 1 Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Named Top Thirty Under 30 Assistant Coach by the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association)

Hoop Juice Recruiting – Established in 2019

In the spring of 2019, Tobias left college coaching to start Hoop Juice Recruiting to help connect hidden women’s basketball talent to athletic scholarships.

His failed experience running his own recruiting process, and coaching basketball at the Division 1 & Division 2 made him an expert and thought leader on the recruiting process and coaching others on how to get a basketball scholarship.

That is the mission and why of Hoop Juice Recruiting which has now grown to help over 200 plus basketball prospects get connected to over $4,000,000 Million Dollars in Basketball Scholarships.
